Dieleman points out that before visiting his store customers should get their measurements in order then check out the competition and compare costs. ' Demand is growing for good home office furniture After all, the appeal of such established fashion lies in its sense of permanence and Muller â€" whose store has been located on Lakeshore Road downtown since the midâ€"Sixties â€" wouldn‘t have it any other way. Still, he says there are a few new wrinkles to keep your eye on. "Styles are not drastically changing," he said. I Currently strong, says Muller, are occasional tables of colored metâ€" als. On the other hand, customers are demanding home office furniture such as desks and computer tables in warm woods such as oak and cherry. Muller said that while reclining chairs, or "motion furniture" as he calls them, have always been popular they are selling even better these days. Especially hot are those pieces created in classic styles. "They don‘t even look like recliners and so they are good for formal living rooms," says Muller, who came to Canada from Switzerland in 1951 and opened a small upholstery shop on Dean Avenue two years later. (Swiss Interiors now occupies 9,000 sq. ft. on four floors.) Colors, says Muller, are what change more than the styles of the furâ€" niture itself but, once again, the triedâ€"andâ€"true wins out. Hunter green is still very strong, he said, as is cranberry. Having started Swiss Interiors selling mostly Scandinavian furniâ€" ture, Muller has moved his focus over the years to mostly traditional. Among his best selling lines are those made in Canada. . GARDEN Wallpaper borders are a deco rator‘s secret â€" making ordinary moms look extmaordinary. Borders can edge floors, chair rails, stairwells, kitchen counters, windows, decorative moldings, picture groupings, fireplaces, even entire rooms, Just apply your favorite border around the ceiling and repeat the treatment vertically in each comner It‘s an casy way to give a boxy room architectural detail. Stenciling adds that custom look to rooms Borders can make any room special For those who have had unfortuâ€" nate experiences attempting to wallâ€" paper a room, take note. Modernâ€"day technology has allowed stenciling to become a goofâ€"proof home dec techâ€" nique that makes no demands for artistic ability and yet offers the supeâ€" rior decorating tool of handâ€"painted design. When buying stenciling supplies, be sure your chosen stencils lie flat against the wall. This prevents any paint built up. One of the most recâ€" ommended paints to use is quickâ€"dryâ€" ing Japan paint, since it literally dries as fast as it is applied, thus eliminatâ€" ing the chance to smudge the newly painted surface. This, together with the use of a China bristle brush, is the real secret behind beautiful stenciling and will also considerably decrease the amount of time required to finish the project. Another plus to stenciling is that is is extremely cost effective â€" stencils can be used over and over again, and a 2â€"fluidâ€"ounce jar of Japan paint will get you through a border stenciling design for three 9‘x12‘ rooms or more. Borders, properly placed, can also correct a room‘s proportion problems. Give a low ceiling the illusion of height by placing the border directly on the ceiling, drawing the eye upward. With a high ceiling, run the border along the top of the door frame for a warm, dramatic effect. For a custom look, cover the walls with a crisp stripe, and use a coordinating border for edging. Borders can also be used to mat a picture frame, dress up a plain folding screen, decoupage a toy box, nightstand or wastebasâ€" ket. For a neat trick in the kitchen, wrap wooden or ceramc canisters with the same border you‘ve used on the walls. 1194 Dundas St. E 2572577
