Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. down the hierarchy tives made the move all worthâ€" while. "I‘m very happy with the supâ€" port, quite impressed with the willingness of the town to recogâ€" nize the value of the gallery. It‘s quite extraordinary." In her attempts to involve the community, Perinet has impleâ€" mented changes to the Galleries‘ education program which will pave the way for more discussion of exhibits shown. Instead of havâ€" ing one person "give a talk about the exhibition and position himâ€" self as the person who has the truth, there will be one or two people in the exhibit room to engage in conversation, in order to allow for the exchange of ideas, why they don‘t like it or why the other person thinks there‘s value in it." Sheâ€"is emphatic about breaking down the hierarchy of the mediâ€" um "an old tradition that has no value today." Art is not just realistic paintâ€" | ings nor is it just painting. "A painting has more value than a quilt? I don‘t think so. I want to break that kind of prejuâ€" dice," says Perinet, who is adamant about showing other types of art, talking about it and integrating it into the communiâ€" ty‘s vocabulary. Another way of penetrating the bias or misunderstanding about contemporary art is through children and that‘s one reason Perinet feels the Galleries‘ art classes offered during the sumâ€" mer, March Break and on weekâ€" ends are important. "They handle things with less prejudice," she explains. By working with different materials, developing a broader vocabulary, making a project â€" simply finding other ways to say things, kids can identify more with the contemporary artist and hopefully that rubs off on the parâ€" ents. It‘s an agenda that can be frusâ€" trating at times but Perinet hopes new initiatives implemented will result in more letters of support and more people asking informed, interesting questions.
