P o ce t se mt t en s on . ie Eo POV " Robin a sure sign of fall around this house Normally autumn is a busy time in the world of wine. Wineries are on standby to receive the grapes. The nights begin to cool off someâ€" what and I get invited to three and four tastings a day. I am sure the producers and agents get together and hold all their tastings on the same day, just so I can miss most of them! There are also my own grapes â€" the ones growing in my backyard. I have probably the healthiest vines in the area which are just about breaking under the overâ€"abundance of berries. Yet I have never ever managed to pick any grapes for myself. You see, years ago I used to have a rather large cherry tree and some birds â€" actually thousands of them â€" used to roam the town waiting for Eberspaecher‘s cherries to ripen. Just when I figured they were ready to be picked, you guessed it, the day before, they all moved in and picked it clean. When I finally won that battle by cutting the tree down, they moved onto my grapes. God only knows, before they are ripe not a single bird can be seen, yet as soon as they are ripened to perfection, they are all there, including their young ones. I know fall is just around the corâ€" ner because there is a robin that comes every day to check the grapes out. I guess they are still too sour for him, but any day now the mess will start, and fall is here again. Fall also signals the start of the many Octoberfest celebrations and wine festivals. I am sure that almost everybody has at one time or anothâ€" er visited the great Octoberfest at Munich in Germany or at least Exhibit opens An exhibition and sale of paintâ€" ings by renowned Canadian artist James Lorimer Keirstead opens Thursday, Sept. 30th at the Quality Hotel, 754 Bronte Rd. I, personalâ€" ly, like the one in Kitchener, as well as, the one in Bavaria, but everyone tells me that the brew in Bavaria tastes a little bit better. What a surprise it was to me the other day when I realized that the very same beer that is used in i pp mm BHAMPTON L* STEELES AVE. â€"â€"â€"â€" 200 County Court Blvd. HURONTARIO _HWY. #10 DERRY RD. CANADA® 200 COUNTY COURT BLVD. BRAMPTON Munich is now available in our regâ€" ular LCBO stores. The Hofbrauhaus in Muenchen is probably one of the oldest breweries of Bavaria, having produced their first beer back in the midâ€"15th century. That same beer, the Urbrau is now sold in our liquor stores at $2.29 per halfâ€"litre bottle. I find that this lightâ€"colored beer is very pleasant to drink, perhaps too much so, and has an aromatic hop taste and is generally very light in taste, very typical of a German pils. Just make sure when you go to one of the Octoberfests that you leave your car at home.
