By KATHY YANCHUS Oakvillc Beaver Staff Artist Alan Kingsland confesses to having gone through several tubes of green paint this year. Kingsland's canvases turnng green Green? Kingsland himself finds it amusing as he’s known for his snowy rural scenes; even his trains have ‘swept’ through blizzards. “I don’t leave the bottom half of the paper now,” he jokes as he pre- pares for his first local solo exhibit in two years opening Sunday at Glen Abbey Framing and Fine An. But just because the nationally renowned painter hasn’t been sipâ€" ping wine and nibbling cheese at local openings, doesn’t mean he hasn’t been exhibiting. Not onlyflhas he prepared shows for out-ofâ€"tdwn venues, but he’s been travelling extensively to promote his prints. Six new ones have been released since the spring and the subject matter of four of them will surprise followers of Kingsland’s work Clergy: Canon Alex Hewitt, Rector Rev. Andrew Murray, Asst. Two “generic” golf hole prints released in the spring were followed by prints of holes at St. George’s in Toronto and one from a U.S. golf course. “This is not a traditional subject of mine. I play a lot and that’s how I got into doing it," says Kingsland. Kingsland has also been called upon to do commissions for golf clubs such as St. George’s and Mississauga Golf and Country Club. As well as ‘prints, the show will include originals from Kingsland’s travels to the Queen Charlotte Islands in British Columbia and tra- ditional farmhouse paintings, in all more than 20 works.
