After collaborating on three books about World War II - Tug of War, Rhineland and Dieppe - the Ihthitakers had some l0 years of research material lying around the house. It was only natural for them tirturn their minds to "recycling" thme of it into other media forms -r: such as television, said Shelagh. . The television documentary is based on the book of the same dame, first published last year in hard cover and this year in paper Wack. Probably the best-researched book on the subject, it examines the reasons why the Dieppe'raid was undertaken in the fast place and the terrible toll it took on that fateful Aug. 19th of 1942 when 10,000 men from the British and Canadian forces struggled against over- whelming odds for six agonizing hours.
