The trio will appear in court on Dec. 23. The boy struck in the eye remains in hospital and has not yet been charged. None of those involved can be named under the Young Offenders Act. At the time Wednesday‘s press conference was about to start, Barnes said the wounded boy‘s father had been told a different version of the incident. Bames would not say who confessed, neither would he specify how many weapons were involved, explaining such information was of an "evidenciary" nature. Given the new twist to the story, Barnes said the boy‘s parents would not talk to the ress. "The father decided under the cirâ€" cumstances that he would rather not attend," said Barnes. The media event provided police with an opportunity to explain the dangers of such weapons and express their concern over their sale and misâ€" use. To underscore this point, Barnes spread on the table before him a selection of air pistols bearing a disâ€" turbing similarity to real handguns. "As you can see it is extremely difficult to tell the difference between the replicas and the real thing," said Bames, explaining replicas are used in more holdâ€"ups and robberies than real guns. Barnes added, however, that this was the first instance of such a war game he is aware of in which this variety of weapon was used. The problem is compounded by the fact there is no legislation in place to regulate such weapons. At present there exists only unofficial store poliâ€" cies controlling their sale to those under 18 years of age. Asked what he‘d like to tell lawmakers, Barnes stated replicas should be treated as firearms. "These weapons cause us a lot of problems but police can‘t control their acquisition in any shape or form," he said. Pressed whether. he thought Tuesday‘s wounding might prompt tighter legislation, Bamnes said simply "I hope so." j Let‘s Talk f Mortgages Loans * Line of Credit * 1st, 2nd 3rd mortgages * Residential Commercial * Plazas/Apt./Office Bldgs. * Up to 95% Financing * NO Upâ€"Front Fees ; * Inâ€"Home or Office Consultatio * 6 Days, 9 a.m.â€"9 p.m. KINGSWAY k Investments Ltd. 333â€"1965
