Theatre Sheridan ‘sibling‘ stages The Farm Show Theatre Sheridan has a sibling. Theatre Erindale is the offshoot of a joint program established by Sheridan College and Erindale College in Mississauga and its debut production, The Farm Show, runs tonight and tomorrow evening at the brand new Erindale Studio Theatre. The program of academic and pracâ€" tical drama education is unique, according to Patrick Young, who is not only directing the initial show but is an acting and theatre history instructor at both institutions. "It‘s a doubleâ€"barâ€" relled fourâ€"year specialist degree proâ€" gram. After four years they get a diploma in acting from Sheridan and a degree in dramatic history and literaâ€" ture from the University of Toronto." Students of the program, which parallels the Sheridan/Erindale Art and Art History program, have a variety of backgrounds and come from all corâ€" ners of the country. Upon graduation, many of them will enter the acting profession, some will gravitate towards teaching and still others will ~ head towards careers as writers or directors, says Young. "It‘s a mix of ambitions," he says. The initial two years of the proâ€" gram is mainly academic with the remaining two years, heavily practiâ€" cal. An unlike a college where the emphasis is on the practical, "at uniâ€" versity we can‘t do that," says Young explaining that rehearsals are held in the evenings and on weekends, a gruelling schedule to which the stuâ€" dents had to adjust. This season, Theatre Erindale offers two productions with hopes of featuring three shows next year, says Young. An unconventional version of Shakespeare‘s Pericles Prince of Tyre is on the agenda but first, students must get through The Farm Show, chosen for its Canadian value as well as its challenge for students who must use their imaginations to the limit as well as take on the roles of "oodles of people." Curtain time for The Farm Show is 8 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and $7 for stuâ€" dents and seniors â€" call the Theatre Erindale box office at 569â€"4369.
