THE OAKVILLE BEAVER _BUSINESS Nature‘s Best Will that be coffee, tea or rop in for a coffee and stay ;;for a browse at Bronte‘s BRA newest shop, Nature‘s Best. Located on Marine Drive just east of Bronte Rd., Nature‘s Best is the kind of shop that offers a little bit of everything. Owners Nancy and Gerald Dollin began in the gourmet coffee business a couple of years ago, and have been building up a steady clientele by offering their products as fundraisers at local schools. It was a friend who suggested they branch out into a retail format, but they decided to approach it in a unique way. Picking up on an idea which has proven popular in the United States, the Dollins have incorporated a "Rent a Shelf" concept into their shop which basically means that people can rent a shelf or similar display space in the store to promote their particular product. * Shelf space rents for $40 a month and five per cent of sales which Nancy Dollin says compares favorably with the standard consignment fee of 25 to 30 percent, or the cost of renting a space for a day at a craft fair. Response to the concept has been favorable, and the shelves are already filling up with a variety of items from books and jewellry to cosmetics, toys and homemade | quilts. . Getting back to the gourmet coffee business, Nancy specializes in creating special gift baskets in any size or price range featuring your choice of many specialty coffees and teas. Those on display in the store ranged from three dollars to larger items suitable for hostess or wedding gifts. Whatever the occasion, Dollin will customize the basket to suit individual tastes. She will also put together wedding favors or even do children‘s party loot bags. Dollin admits the tight economy has forced her to be versatile, and it has also made her very mindful of keeping her prices reasonable. Some of her gift baskets, complete with goodies, she points out, are selling for the same price as the empty basket would in other stores. Nature‘s Best coffee sells for $5.99 a pound or $6.99 for gourmet flavored coffees. While that sounds more expensive than grocery store prices, Dollin points out that the packaging in grocery stores is not a full pound, and there also isn‘t the same variety of blends.
