Lifeguards unaware epileptic was alone in swimming pool By GORD KOLLE Special to the Beaver United way still needs $435,000 to meet goal By WILMA BLOKHUIS Oakville Beaver Staff espite startling statistics « as to the need, Oakville‘s KRA United Way campaign is running behind, with 77% of the $1.9 million goal reached as of Monday night, representing $1;465,000 in â€" donations. Executive director Bill Deyell fears the goal may not be met, with only eight days left till the Nov. 25th Campaign Touchdown. "We‘re slipping behind," said Deyell, "We still need about $435,000." He cited two areas of concern, individual gifts and donations from small business. "We still need $94,000 in indiâ€" vidual gifts. If everybody who gave last year renewed their pledges this year, we would make our individual gifts goal." He explained the individual gifts catâ€" egory includes pledges from the doorâ€"toâ€"door campaign, responses to letters of appeal, and walkâ€"in donations. The individual gifts goal is $255,000, Deyell said. Donations from small business are running at just under 50% of a $124,000 goal, with $60,000 received. "This division is runâ€" ning substantially behind." A Metroland Community Newspaper _ Vol. 31 No.137 Deyell hopes this Friday‘s (Nov. 19th) National Dress Down Day for the United Way will bring in $15.000 to $20,000. For 1 184 Lakeshore Rd. "National Dress Down Day began as a last ditch effort as a fun way to raise some additional dollars, and it raised about $200,000 in Toronto last year," Deyell said. "Last year we had about 50 companies participating in Dress Down Day." As for the statistics, the United Way‘s 36 member agencies proâ€" vided the following figures: Q The Oakville Crisis Centre receives upwards of 12,000 calls for help each year, but current facilities and staff can: only respond to half of these calls.
