Under a newlyâ€"launched provincial Waterfront Regeneration Trust, the province may fund a project anywhere from 1% to 100%. in making application for funds, has requested a 50% grant from the province. Just prior to the presentation by the Town‘s landscape architect Barry Wilson, Perkins told the crowd that in the past few years the Parks Department has been looking at bringâ€" ing the older parks in town up to today‘s standards. A master plan has been developed for Trafalgar Park, for instance, with work slated in 1994. Perkins cautioned the 30 or so peoâ€" ple at the meeting that the program could be cancelled at any time, and the Town will not learn if any funding is available until the new year. "This is very preliminary," he said. However, the provincial initiative â€" the Waterfront Regeneration Trust â€" does not include any funds for shoreâ€" line protection. As well, said Perkins, the Town has $450,000 in a cashâ€"inâ€"lieu of parkland fund paid by developers that could be used to fund their portion of the cost. "We are as surprised to be here to talk about Coronation Park as you are," said Perkins, who said they had only five weeks to apply for the grant. With the fight for dollars, Perkins said the Town didn‘t want to overlook an opportunity for a grant. "But for all we know, in January, the program may disappear," he added.
