ith the new year upon us, it is a good time to reflect on : our individual goals. I am a firm believer that pa1t|c1pauon in sports and what one derives from it, is the blueprint for life. Being the best you can be, is not always easy. Trying to accomplish what you set out to do, and doing it to the best of your ability includes: hard work, dedication, motivaâ€" tion and perseverance, to name a few. Canadians will have an opportunity to support the Canadian Olympic Teams at the Lillchammer Winter Games by signing a huge "Go for the Gold, Team Canada" banner. From Jan. 15th to Feb. 5th, wellâ€" wishers can drop into any of the 650 Ford or Lincoln Mercury dealerships across Canada to sign the 7 x 4â€"foot banners to be presented to the team. Everyone who signs one of the banners will receive a commemorative Olympic lapel pin. "This is a great opportunity for all Canadians to get behind Canada‘s team," said J.G. (Jim) O‘Connor, presiâ€" dent and chief executive officer of Ford of Canada. ‘"Ford is hoping this will be a real boost for Canadian athletes and will give them the extra edge to compete to a level they‘ve never reached before." Ford of Canada is an official sponsor of the Canadian Olympic Team and the exclusive automotive company among the 13 major corporate sponsors. "Ford has had a winning year and we like to be associated with winners," said O‘Connor, explaining his compaâ€" ny‘s involvement with the Olympic team. "This year also marks Ford of Canada‘s 90th anniversary as Canada‘s longest established automobile compaâ€" Setting and meeting goals are keys to success In order to be the best you can be, to reach for the stars, you must first estabâ€" lish and define where it is you dream to be. This is called goalâ€"setting, for the shortâ€"term (daily) and the longâ€"term (final outcome), with realistic objecâ€" tives. I had to stop for a moment and assess where I really wanted to go with basketball, if anywhere. I remember watching the Olympics on television the year previously, and marvelling at how good those Olympians really were. I even imagined myself in an Olympics like those one day, but never really considered it too seriously (it looked like such hard work). It was the next school year that basketball came along.
