"When I‘m working downstairs it‘s the same as if I was working (outside the home)," says Bowen, an accomplished and awardâ€"winâ€" ning artist with numerous group and solo exhibits to her credit. "When I‘m teaching, I usually paint at night and when I‘m not teaching, I use the morning." Pots tend to boil over and the dust isn‘t the only thing to pile up, but Bowen manages to make both fulltime passions work; in fact the two intertwine as she attempts to translate her life into art. "I play many different roles and I always try to maintain an equality amongst these roles. My creative process involves the image bank inside my head, my obsession with making things and the reality of preparing meals and doing laundry." Over the Rainbow is a series of images representing her search for balance, explains Bowen. "I have chosen to paint on canâ€" vas aprons and then stretch them like animal pelts on the traditional wooden stretcher frames used for painter‘s canvas. Bowen finds working with stuâ€" dents revitalizing because it allows her to hear herself talking about art and problemâ€"solving, she says.
