Twelve Mile Creek bridge compromise goes to council for approval May 25th By HOWARD MOZEL Oakville Beaver Staff fter months of hard bargainjng by a variety of west end resiâ€" . dents‘ groups, the final plan for the brldge crossing over Twelve Mile Creek is set to go to town council. On May 25th councillors will conâ€" sider the recommendations hammered out by the Burloak Driveâ€"Twelve Mile Creek Environmental Assessment Steering Committee which held its final meeting last Friday. According to Ward 1 councillor and committee chairman Ralph Robinson, issues which divided the community mere months ago have now been largely resolved. "Everyone is pretty well in agreeâ€" ment," he said, adding that committee‘s report is not unanimous. Outside the committee, Robinson explained, some concerns linger. For example, the width of Bronte Road â€" a hot issue with adjacent homeowners â€" is recommended to be 10.5 m with a conâ€" tinuous turning land and a travel lane on either side. Robinson is optimistic this will be reduced to 9 m at the council stage. A recently formed Rebecca Street residents group which is in favor of a northerly bridge crossing, opposes the southerly Rebecca recommendation as a first step. Robinson said consultants maintain the southern crossing would contribute only 50 more cars per hour along Rebecca Street during peak times. Other recommendations include the reâ€"alignment of Burloak Drive to four lanes on the southerly portion and six on the northerly portion. As the first of two planned crossings, the Rebecca Street bridge will be built with a deck of three lanes, not the four as originally proposed. The substructure will be capable of an additional lane to 3300 Ninth Line Road Fern Hill School invites you to tour the school and to meet and speak with teachers. Reading, writing and math activities will be on display and staff from all grade levels will be available to discuss programmes.
