The town is now trying to find out if the whole process can be speeded up. The town recognizes the need for an additional arena and even has the location penciled in on the map â€" in the Iroquois Ridge North community (east of Eight Line and north of Glenashton Drive. Local 1ce user groups unite to press for twin pad arena In support of their campaign, the user groups â€" which call themselves the Oakville Twin Rink Team â€" are raising funds and awareness by selling buttons for $2 and are currently circulating a petition (For more informaâ€" tion, phone the MOHA office at 257â€"8992). User groups include MOHA, Oakville Figure Skating, Oakville Oldtimers Hockey, Halton Men‘s League, Oakville Precision Skating and Oakville Girls Hockey. Situations such as these, which are becoming all too common, have resulted in all of the ice users banding together into a team to promote the construction of a new ice facility as soon as possible, ideally by the middle of next year. This season the problem came to a head with the Minor Oaks Hockey Association and the Oakville Figure Skating club forced to turn away 300 and 400 skaters, respectively. In 1992, there were two girls hockey teams in Oakville. For the upcoming season, there is a projected demand for seven girls teams and the expectation of even more in the future. In the past few years, there has been increased pressure on the town of Oakville to provide more and better ice facilities. Team awards cap off hockey season Some young Oakville and area show jumpers were lucky enough to get a taste of international competition this spring. The top group traveled last month to the Dominican Republic where they finished second overall and were the top foreign country in a 10â€"country meet. The bottom group traveled earlier this month to the Barbados where they finished second overall in a meet that also included visiting competitors from Trinidad and the United States. Top group: Jennifer Adams (coach), Blair Mondor, Nadia Keane, Jamie Mikulin and Tanya Nordby (missing from photo is Becky Isard). Bottom group: Top row: Claire Gillies, Chris Squires, Stephanie Aitken, Heather Loree and Nicola Blue. Bottom row: Jamie Mikulin, Matt Mikulin, Erin Flett, Tanya Nordby, Rachael Content (missing from photo are Suzy Gillies, Tiffany Thrash and Marc Reid. Longo‘s 3, Starfleet Construction 2 (April 16, championship game): in a close game between the top two teams in the regular season, Longo‘s scored two goals in the last minute of the second period to win the championship. Longo‘s reached the finals by virtue of one goal in a threeâ€"way tie in their playoff pool. Longo‘s offence was taken care of by Kyle Bickerstaffe (two goals, one assist), Michael. Indovina (one goal, two assists) and Duncan Harvey (two assists). Declan Noonan and Andrew Wylie took care of the goals for Starfleet Construction while assists went to Kevin Mcintyre, Dan Moran, Tim Richardson and Shawn Quennell.
