Kiss travelling to Israel with National Ballet Toronto, becoming a waiter at Bemelmens on fashionable Bay Street. One day, Kiss served Serge Lavoie â€" a principal dancer with the NBC â€" and he reminded him of his dancing past. His itchy feet brought him to a private studio, where former National Ballet School teacher, Glenn Gilmour, was giving a class. "I started to take lessons just for fun. One day I slept in, so I took a later class. As it turned out, this wasn‘t a class, but an audiâ€" tion for the Alberta Ballet. I was offered a job. I said no because I wanted to stay in Ontario," says Kiss. Within the next few months, guest teachers from the studio encouraged Kiss to audition for the NBC because they needed tall males. At first he laughed, thinkâ€" ing they were joking since he hadn‘t danced professionally in five years. After contemplating the idea, Kiss thought, "Hey, this could be my last chance; maybe it‘s not such a bad idea to try out for Reid Anderson (present NBC artistic director). If he said no, fine, if he said yes...amazing." Anderson knew of Kiss‘ dance background and training. Although Kiss admits he was out of shape, Anderson had faith in his abilities and hired him to join the company. As a member of the corps de ballet for the last three years, Kiss has traveled to Europe, Asia, and many American and Canadian cities. He lists his favorite place to perform as Japan. Kiss‘ reperâ€" toire includes the roles of Prince‘s Friend in Swan Lake, The Nobleman in Gazelle, a Matador and Innkeeper in Don Quiote.
