In keeping with this year‘s theme: Media and Tobacco: Getting the Health Message Across", the Health Department will be asking local libraries, recreation facilities, physicians‘ offices, and schools to display this poster in a highly visible location. Yvonne Everardâ€"Parr, who coâ€"ordinated the development of the poster, says that the purpose of the poster is to remind all those who read it that our efforts now to control tobacco use will contribute towards a healthier community in the future. This poster is just one component in a comprehensive approach taken by the Health Department to reduce tobacco use in Halton. Other components include education/awareness campaigns about the effects of tobacco, and public policies to protect nonâ€"smokers from environmental tobacco smoke and to restrict access to tobacco by young people.
