Born in 1956, Schroer is a tradiâ€" tional Canadian fiddle player with classical training and a strong interâ€" est in jazz, improvisation and worldâ€"wide music. In 1986 he won the Canadian Open Intermediate Fiddle Championship in Shelburne and in 1987, aiming to build a creâ€" ative forum for both traditional and contemporary improvised music, he founded Eye Music which went on to become the only Canadian group to perform at the Montreux International Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Arts Marketing â€" Primer is schedâ€" uled for June 15 to 17th. For inforâ€" mation, call the Summer: School of the Arts, 845â€"9430, ext. +« * Schroer will teach both group and solo lessons to any students from the end of Book 1 and up. Those who are attending the first week of the camp and would like to attend either solo or group sessions with Schroer should notify Jean Grieve at 827â€"6737 as soon as posâ€" sible. The Camp will be held July 11 to 15th and 18th to 22nd at White Oaks Secondary School. There is a morning program for children aged 4 to 6 and full programs for ages 7 to 13 and chamber music and orchestra for advanced students in the afternoon. Arts Primer Fundâ€"raising techniques aimed at nonâ€"profit arts organizations with budgets of $1 million or less will be the subject of discussion at Arts Marketing â€" A Primer, being hosted by Sheridan College‘s Summer School of the Arts. The workshop helps streamline objectives by focusing on such pivâ€" otal topics as an overview of the arts in Ontario, principles and techâ€" niques of management, arts marketâ€" ing, fundâ€"raising and initiating a marketing plan. Skills learned during the sessions should benefit organizations based in culture, heritage, theatre, visual arts, festivals, recreation or special events by aiding participants in forâ€" mulating marketing plans and proâ€" grams geared specifically towards their organization‘s individual needs. Eligible participants, including general managers of theatre compaâ€" nies, gallery managers, artistic directors, marketing and public relaâ€" tions directors/coordinators, arts board members and arts volunteers, are encouraged to submit specific case studies or problems prior to the start of the course for use during sessions. Schroer served as music advisor for the CBC film, Fiddleville and the popular series, Road to Avonlea and he has composed the soundâ€" track for two films as well as released his new album, Jigzup, an effort to bring fiddle music into the 90‘s. Classes in violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, recorder, voice and guitar are being offered and beginâ€" ners are welcome. For information, call Adrienne Williams at 842â€"3897 or Margaret Taylor at 849â€"6911.
