The Special Donor Recognition Ceremony featured three unveilings beginning with a ‘Treasure Ship‘ sculpture, created by artists Ron and Lynda Baird â€" assisted by art consulâ€" tant Ann Mortimer â€" and featuring 1,500 keys in the shape of a ship‘s hull, reminiscent of Oakville‘s shipâ€"building heritage. "The Bairds felt that our donors could best be described as the ‘keys‘ to the hospital‘s founding and continued existence," commentâ€" ed William H. Polley, chair, OTMH Board of Governors. "The Bairds were informed of the impressive support from our auxiliary, community members, business concerns and service clubs. They also took an extensive tour of our town and were impressed both by the water... and the J ~"IC "Our donors can best be described as To ensure that the plaques and the history associated with them would not be lost, they were given to the Bairds for inclusion in the Historical Wall. Where possible, existing plaques were retained and refurbished. In other cases plaques were reâ€"cast with the original wording. The Donor Wall, promised during the 1985/86 Building Fund Campaign, includes the names of all donors who have made cumuâ€" lative contributions of more than $5,000 since 1985. The artists created a mural, continuing with the waterway and key theme which characterâ€" ize the sculpture, using the image of Oakville‘s Sixteen Mile Creek. Cumulative donations from $100 to $4,999 are contained in the Book of Honour disâ€" played in the hospital‘s front lobby. Donations made in the memory of loved ones are listed in the In Memoriam Book. Donor categories are as follows: $5,000 to town‘s shipbuilding the keys to the Hospital‘s founding $14,999 (Friend); history." and continued existence" $15,000 to $24,999 The key theme is (Sponsor); $25,000 to symbolic of the key to success, good health, the future, opportunity, key people and the community, said Polley. The Historical Wall was the next to be unveiled. It contains commemorative plaques that have been produced over the years in recognition of generous contributions from * donors. The wall includes the names of the hospital‘s founding families and those who contributed generously to the development of the hospital prior to 1985. The wall is a conâ€" solidation of all the plaques throughout the hospital which had to be removed or relocated because of the facility‘s major expansion. Ruth Anne Winter, Viceâ€" Chalr, 1993 Equipment Campaign, and Isobel Winnett, Founding Member OTMH Auxiliary OTMH Charitable Corporation were on hand to welcome new donors. The hospital lobby was filled with OTMH staff and supporters. $49,999 (Leader), $50,000â€"to $99,999 (Patron); $100,000 to $499,999 (Benefactor); $500,000 to $999,999 (Humanitarian); $1 milâ€" lion plus (Philanthropist).
