Both conscientious and reliable, he is a fine worker who always tries his best, Yawney said. Hall loves the workâ€" shop and has numerous friends there. Yawney has received very positive feedback from his customers, who include big names like Ford, Revion, Rubbermaid, Bell Canada, and Moen. "We‘re very good at what we do," Yawney said. Patiently, they have waited to work their way up the waiting list to enter a team in the United Way Bath Tub Race and have just received confirmation of their entry for this year. That‘s dedication! Monenco AGRA is still a relatively new company to the Oakville area, establishing themselves here in 1991. Since then, they haven‘t looked back! Each year, their enthusiasm seems to grow as they become more and more entrenched in the community. In addition to involvement in the Junior Achievement Program, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Oakville Waterfront Festival, they are a strong supporter of United Way of Oakville. "It is the supporting companies â€" such as Monenco AGRA â€" who are the pillars of our strength in the community," said Mack Gould, executive director for United Way of Oakville. "Their reliable and consistent commitment to us is a cornerâ€" stone of our success." Instead of performing contract work, some individuâ€" als are being taught reading, writing, and social skills. He will continue reaching out to meet the needs of the developmentally handicapped in any way that he Where would these individuals be without Speers Place Industries? According to Yawney, they might be sitting aimlessly at home or, in some cases, walking the streets. Many would end up institutionalized, or requiring daytime residential services. Community Living Oakville does have job placement officers who provide counseling and coaching to assist clients who decide that they want to move to outside work. While the government is shifting towards workplace integration for the developmentally handicapped, Yawney wants the option of a workshop left open. He said that Speers Place Industries protects many from the discrimination that still exists in the outside world. \ ""Many misconceptions regarding the developmentalâ€" ly handicapped are still out there," he said. Yawney said that the government is cutting back on workshop funding. While the workshop may eventually be phased out, a day program that will accommodate changing needs can be phased in. Unlike the workshop, which can in part pay for itself, however, a day program would need full funding. "The direction we are moving in is toward clientâ€"cenâ€" tered services," Yawney explained. "We must look at the individual needs of each client, and shift away from a‘ productâ€"focused program."
