A few weeks ago I planted a few rows of tomatoes there on a cold windy afternoon, and did not think they would survive but they are strong and healthy. Because it was so windy the roots were planted about six inches deep with just the tops above ground. This seems to have worked. The ground is quite fertile as the weeds really grow.
