By D ANE HART Special to the Beaver akvilleâ€"Trafalgar Memorial Hospital president and chief executive officer Dieter Kuntz dismisses as "petty" amd "sour grapes" criticism of the new 6,000 sq. ft. adminisâ€" trative offices he and his staff move into this week. The $600,000 spent on the new offices for the president, four viceâ€"presidents, administrative assistant, and secretaries is part of the overall $49â€"million hospital renovation, funded through the Ministry of Health and region of Halton. It is not part of the $10â€" million fundraising efforts for hospital equipment. In an interview, Kuntz said that the administrative renovations just completed this week cost $100 per square foot. The new administraâ€" ~tive offices on the third floor of the Lawson building are 6,000 square feet, he said. Another $130,000 budgeted for the administrative offices included furniture, upgrades for the comâ€" puter, and photocopying equipâ€" ment. Kuntz said all the renovations â€" including the ones to the Lawson building â€" are part of the hospital‘s move towards making OTMH one of the most modern hospitals in southern Ontario. All areas of the hospital will be comâ€" pleted in the next three years. "We are not singled out. It would be different if we just renoâ€" vated administration and not anyâ€" thing else. But everything will be renovated," he stressed. However, calls logged at the Beaver have been critical of the expenditure in light of health care cutbacks and tight budgets. Originally, patients were to use the Lawson building once psychiâ€" atric services had no need of the space. It had been used as nursing quarters in previous years. At the time renovations were discussed, it was thought the Lawson building â€" that currently (See ‘Third‘ page 4) SAVE *35°"° hatched for a good grip. 57â€"9004â€"4 4" vise.
