Road Oakville Sports Digest Argos host ’Oakville Day' at opener The Toronto Argonauts open their season against Baltimore at the Skydome next Thursday and there will likely be a large contingent of Oakville tans looking on. It‘s Oakville community day, and local residents can purchase a regular $18 ticket for $10 which includes Level 100 seating, a fabulous halt-time memorial tribute to Argos owner John Candy and a $1 donation to the United Way. For early birds, there’s also a pro-game scrimmage between the Oakville Fire Department and the Halton Regional Police tactical squad which will be looking to hang on to the trophy in this yearly grudge match. A story in the last issue of the Oakville Beaver had indicated that no less than three members of Oakville's triple-AAA midget team were selected in the recent OHL draft. In fact, there were four players selected, and our apologies go out to B.J. Hamilton who was taken 174th by Sault Ste Marie. Other teammates who will be suiting up at various OHL training camps this tall include: Brent Strike, taken 97th by Samla; Marcel Kars, taken 142nd by Sault Ste. Marie; and Darryl Curtis, taken 223rd by North Bay. Oï¬â€˜ day dashes Ontario Cup chances An off day last Sunday ensured that the Oakville Velebit soccer club's first Ontario Cup game this year would also its be its last. With the 1-0 loss to North York. the team is 'out of Ontario Cup competi- tion,†said team otlicial Joe Horvat. 'It Just wasn't our day,†he said. 'We made one mistake and they capital- ized.’ The team, which went to the quarter-Ilnals last year, is hoping for a ditlerent late In Ontario Soccer League action.
