It took a Canadian champion team to finally derail the Oakville Blue Devil‘s drive to the championship of last weekâ€" end‘s prestigious Robbie tournament in Scarborough. The Oakville underâ€"16 boys rep socâ€" cer team put together five straight wins â€" including two international matches against Cookstown, Northern Ireland and Columbia, Maryland â€" to a earn a shot at their old nemesis, the host Malvern team from Scarborough. Oakville played a great first half and almost took an early lead when a Kory Jazbec header beat the goaltender but sailed off the crossbar. It was Malvern, however, who scored first and they took the 1â€"0 lead to the dressing room. Malvern made it 2â€"0 in the second half before a very tired Oakville team finally got on the board with 15 minutes left in the game. The goal was scored by Paul Hayward on a penalty shot. Oakville Lightning started off slowly and played uninspired until Peter Kuchta‘s goal late in the first half evened the score at one. Everyone made it to the Oakville mark was a strong northâ€"easterly blowing which, by the start of the race, had built up seas to between eight and 10 feet, with occasional drizzle and fog patches. Everyone made it to the Oakville mark, with the Oakville Yacht Squadron‘s Xâ€"Rated being the first to round. But the trek across Lake Ontario to the Niagara Bar buoy took its toll. Several yachts suffered rigging failures, mostly failed shrouds. The seas continued to crash and roll, and by 7 a.m. on June 25 there were only 21 entrants still in commercial space Page 19 cesX realestare _ 100165 agromart _ 100â€"165 Ees rENTALS 170â€"196 RRRRE rurpwantep 170â€"19%6 LEISUuREuVNG 200â€"265 AnNNouncEments 200â€"265 BE vrrcranorse 100â€"165 ; DEADLINES CANCELLATIONS: Mon. 4 p.m. for Wednesday Issue. As forecast, about the the time the lead yachts reached Main Duck Island, the wind was clocking so that it was a beat both ways. Finally, after three days, 10 hours, 30 minutes and 45 seconds, Quicksilver from the Port Credit Yacht Club became the 14th and final yacht to complete the course. Steve Marinic, Lee Bekker, Mike de Vaal and Draggy Stojkovic were very sound on defense, not allowing Brampton many scoring chances at all. "‘Congratulations to those brave souls who managed to tough it out under lousy conditions," commented Grant Goodfellow of the organizing committee.
