The Dragons kept themselves in contention with two wins (2â€"0 over Gloucester d 2â€"1 over Brampton) and a tie (2â€"2 with Richmond Hill) in their first three games. Four Oakville teams have advanced to Ontario Cup semiâ€"final round _ Four Oakville teams are still in contention for the Ontario Cup following a fill slate of action on the weekend, both in town and across the province. Both the Oakville Winstars boys underâ€"16 and the Oakville Blue Devils boys nmderâ€"17 teams won their quarterfinal matches at Shell Park on the weekend to nove on to the semiâ€"finals. The Winstars defeated Scarborough Malvern 3â€"2 in an overtime game that ame down to penalty shots and will now face the North York Rockets Sun., Aug. 1 p.m. at Oshawa‘s Civic Fields. Inaugural Lakeshore Criterium set for Sunday The Blue Devils had an easier time of it, doubling London Youth Blue Dragons â€"2, and they will now take on Pickering Power on Sun. Aug. 28 at North York‘s isther Shriner Stadium. Tico Bar and Grill on Church Street is also contributing with a ‘Tour de Tico‘ fundâ€"raising contest. Participants must try and match a winning race time on the real circuit with a bicycle trainer in the restaurant. This is the first time a sporting event of this magnitude has been held in the downtown core. Unfortunately, for the Dragons, Scarborough kept right on rolling with a 3â€"0 hutout and they now advance to the semiâ€"finals. Sports Digest Little league team runs into near perfect pitcher "We‘re expecting upwards of 500 competitors for this event, and we expect to grow every year," said Jim Adams, the Downtown Oakville‘s promotions chair and race director. "We‘re having something for everyone â€" races, a bike rodeo and fun events," said Adams. Not only will spectators get to watch some exciting races, but they will also get a chance to win some great prizes. People can enter by using their American Express card, on race day, in downtown Oakville. _ At this time, a children‘s bike rodeo will be held, with the money raised being donated to the Halton Trailblazers, a group of visually impaired cyclists who will participate in their own race on Sunday. _ The races will feature fields of 30 to 100 riders with speeds of up to 60 kmvh during the downtown road race and up to 75kmh during the sprints. Oakville‘s Brooke Rushiensky helped the Ontario women‘s provincial volleyball team gain a split of its twoâ€"match series against Cuba‘s national juvenile team. _ Last weekend‘s match in Cuba was part of the team‘s preparation for the National Team Challenge Cup in Sherbrooke, Quebec, which is on tap next weekend.. _ The Ontario ladies won the first match last Saturday 3â€"2 (15â€"9, 15â€"13, 2â€"15, 8â€"15 and 15â€"8) and lost on Sunday 0â€"3 (8â€"15, 13â€"15 and 5â€"15). Rushiensky had a good weekend, recording 11 digs in the Saturday match and eight kills on Sunday. An opposing pitcher, who has already had one article written about him in the Toronto Star for a string of noâ€"hitters in league play, ended the Oakville Little League‘s quest for a first divisional title. And wouldn‘t you know it, Stephen Prostran served up the victory for his High Park team by throwing a noâ€"hitter in a close 1â€"0 game. "He‘s pretty darn good," said Oakville coach Bill Roberts. "He‘s everything everybody said he would be." "He almost pitched a perfect game. He was only one batter over the minimum â€" and that was when he hit one of our batters." "He threw a combination of fastballs, curves and couple of changeâ€"ups." It‘s not that his own Oakville troops couldn‘t hit him. They connected hard at times, but unfortunately right into awaiting gloves. The tough loss overshadowed a performance by Oakville pitcher Jonathan Lockwood that was nearly as perfect. The races will start at 7:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day. There will be a break from 10 a.m. until noon so downtown church services will not be interrupted. The Oakville Little League major team (11 and 12 years of age) made it to the final four of the district tournament in Ancaster by posting a record of three wins and one loss.
