Mountsberg recently opened the Ford sales up again in July Ford of Canada‘s winning streak continues. For the seventh consecuâ€" tive month, the company reported an increase in total vehicle sales comâ€" pared with the same month a year earâ€" lier. Ford‘s vehicle sales in July of 22,944 were up 2% from 22,567 last July. Truck sales were up 11% â€" 11,979 compared with 10,769 in July 1993. Car sales of 10,965 were off 7% from 11,798 last July. An increase in Ford‘s minivan sales (which are counted in the truck totals) of 1,067 units, more than offset the 833 unit decline in car sales. "The Canadian market continues to shift as the minivan segment grows much faster than the car market," said Udo Kaul, viceâ€"president â€" General Sales, Ford of Canada. The decreasing availability of Tempo and Topaz (discontinued modâ€" els no longer in production) also hurt the car sales total. However, Escort sales surged 21% over last July, and the new 1994 Mustang sold at a pace nearly three times the rate of July 1993. For the calendar year to date, Ford vehicle sales of 168,624 are up 11% over the first seven months of 1993. Car sales are up 2% over a year ago; truck sales are up 23% for the period. Johnston wants to stock library (Continued from page 1) to western influence such as baseball, peanut butter cookies, and milk shakes. She says, the experience has been good for both her and the Hungarian people. "It was unusual for a stranger to come and do something for them," said Johnston. "I think they need to reâ€" learn the spirit of volunteerism." Johnston is excited about her latest challenge in Hungary. She returned to Canada for a month this summer to get prominent Canadians and Hungarian Canadians advice on her program and to raise funds for a Canadian library at the university. Chartwell Baptist Church, which has helped fund Johnston‘s airfares to Hungary, recently held an auction to raise money for Canadian textbooks, magazine subscriptions, and videos. Johnston is also hoping to raise enough money to purchase a car and a computer.
