August 31, 1994 September is the time when a variety of agencies offer excellent training programs for volunteers. Training provides individuals with the knowledge they need to become an effective and confident volunâ€" teer. You could become a child‘s friend for a September brings new opportunities Registration for the Canadian Hearing Society‘s Sign Language fall classes will take place during the week of Sept. 6th, at the Canadian Hearing Society‘s office at 3034 Palstan Road, Suite 201, in Mississauga. Sign Language classes sign up Classes to be offered include in Signing Naturally â€" ASL 101, 102, and 103, and ASL 201, 202, and 203, if there is sufficient registration. All American Sign Language (ASL) classes are taught by trained local Deaf instructors. Courses are 12 weeks in duration. Cost per course in Level 2 is $100 and materials are $80 (materials are good for three courses in Level 2). The 10 week Beginner course for seniors is $60, with optional materials $60. Jewish new year services The Jewish community of Halton, along with people around the world, is preparing to celebrate the New Year 5755. Rosh Hashanah, which means new year, and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which are only 10 days apart, are the most significant dates of the Jewish year, equivalent in imporâ€" tance to Christmas and Easter in the Christian calendar. The revelry usually associated with the beginning of a new year are noticeâ€" ably absent. Rather, this is a time of painstaking introspection and selfâ€"evaluâ€" ation. Labow is an accomplished musician very active in Jewish musical activities in Toronto and hopes to include cantoriâ€" al work in his repertoire. A Patterning Sensory Program is to begin for a teenage girl, living in Oakville, that would benefit from this method of treatment. For the program to be effective, it requires a commitment from several volunâ€" teers on a weekly basis to complete a set of patterning motions each day between 1 and 2:30 p.m. Four volâ€" unteers are required for each sesâ€" sion. Volunteers should be in good shape (no lifting required) and have lots of motivation. Training will be provided.
