MOEENCE Schwarze The Next By KATHY YANCHUS Oakville Beaver Staff The only ingredient missing in Dia Frid‘s life is time. Fiftyâ€"six hour days would be nice, she muses. There was a time not so long ago when Frid, a theatrical coach, actress and director, was content to put her career on the back burner to stay at home and nurture her two children. She continued to coach students privately, took on the odd role in area productions and at one point, operated a small theatre school in town. But the heavy duty committments were on hold. Her family still comes first, but the children are older now and once Frid decided she could accommodate more work in her schedule, it was hard to reign her in, not to mention difficult to jugâ€" gle all the requests for her time and expertise. Since 1991 she has taught dicâ€" tion at the Fleming School of Dance and since 1992, she has been an acting coach at Hamilton‘s Creative Theatre Psychic Fair 12 under Free with adult x Pleasanty Alr Conditioned * Free Parking Holiday Inn Burlington angdd Sanuth Sarvice Rd â€"(MNEW at Gualnh | ina\ 3063 South Service Rd., (QEW at Guelph Line) * Psychics * Free E.S.P. The latter job she earned through her listing as a theatre coach with McMaster University and the committment, although one evening per week, is huge considering she teaches not only acting fundamentals, but advanced acting and voice and movement. Frid, who has picked up awards and nominations for many of the roles she has tackled over the years, is also in rehearsal for the part of Margaret in Dundas Little Theatre‘s The Lady‘s Not For Burning and has undertaken the director‘s job for Burlington Little Theatre‘s production of The Importance of Being Earnest, which opens in February. Frid is particularly excited about this play because it will be a 100th anniversary production of Oscar Wilde‘s classic and she is deterâ€" mined to make it a memorable one. The Importance of Being Earnest has been staged so often, it is "almost considered communiâ€" ty theatre standard" says Frid. People roll their eyes, but Frid says such wit as Wilde‘s has not Sept. 9,10,11 Frii 1â€"10 Sat: 11â€"10 Sun: 117 graced the stage since Noel Coward. There is the snide, sarâ€" castic element, but comedy which reflects the true foibles of society, is rare she says. Trillium is a nonâ€"profit music education association for women whose goal is to perpetuate the art form of a cappella harmony, barbershop style. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening starting at 7:30 p.m. in Trinity. For more information on this awardâ€"winning ensemble, call 842â€"5772. Frid, who received critical acclaim for her production of Dundas Little Theatre‘s The Glass Menagerie, says she tries to stay away from having a physical image of cast members in mind when she‘s casting. Sometimes she recognizes them as soon as they come in off the street; other times, as was the case when she cast the role of Tom in Glass Menagerie, it‘s when they read. (Frid is searching for actors for the two male leads in The Importance of Being Earnest and auditions will be held Oct. 14th between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. and Oct. 15th between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. at BLT, 770 Drury Lane in Burlington) If you like to sing, this is an opportunity to learn fourâ€"part harâ€" mony, participate in performances complete with choreography and costuming and make new friendâ€" ships. Trillium Chorus is also a proud sponsor of the Trillium Childhood Cancer Support Centre. "Fifty per cent of it (casting) is luck," says Frid adding that the uncertainty is part of the exciteâ€" ment she thrives on in directinge. The Trillium Chorus, Sweet Adelines International will host an Open House, Wednesday, Sept. 14th at 7:30 p.m. in Trinity United Church, McCraney Street and Sewell Drive. Her committment to a producâ€" tion when directing is legendary â€" notorious to her husband David she laughs â€" and she admits it tends to dominate her life but her family lives through it and her children are becoming very familâ€" iar with theatre. Although acting allows her tremendous release and the comâ€" mittment is only to a specific role, it is directing that Frid wants to pursue and she is hoping for the nod from Theatre Ontario to purâ€" sue it professionally.
