On Tuesday, Assistant Crown Attorney Susan Lawson offered no evidence against the accused and asked Judge John Robinson to stay the charges. The Crown has up to one year to reâ€"activate the charge. Her request follows a ruling by Judge Douglas Latimer earlier this summer to stay the charges of five men arrested during a major crackdown on homosexual activity in the public park in July 1993. Fortyâ€"six men, between the ages of 23 and 76, were arrested after police installed a video camâ€" era in the Shell Park washroom. In his ruling Judge Latimer said the Halton Regional Police should have known the law was about to change requiring a judge‘s order for video surveillance. He compared their actions to conducting a search without a warrant. The crown has appealed the ruling and is waiting for a deciâ€" Barbour Craft has expauded! Come and see our new Folk Art Studio. Service industry puts dent in ranks of the unemployed (Continued from page 1) statistics in November 1989. According to a release from Human Resources Development Canada, a large percentage of the decrease is attributable to fewer active claims by those involved in manufacturing activities and in sales and service activities. The Oakville CEC assisted in the placement of 203 persons in jobs during August. The large majority of these positions, 51.7% were in serviceâ€"based industries. Occupations in accommodation and food and beverage services accounted for nearly 30% of these positions. Employers in the local manufacturing industry accounted for 23.7% of new jobs over the month, and retail employers were responsible for 10.3% of new hirâ€" ings over the month. In August, 38 claimants began upgrading or retraining programs with some form of financial assisâ€" tance from the Canada Employment Centre.
