Childrens Ward., Win a holiday at CMHA auction Representatives from the Canadian Mental Health Association, Halton Region Branch and Canadian Airlines International met recently to finalize arrangements for the grand door prize of a trip for two to be won by some lucky person attending the CMHA‘s 16th Annual Charity Auction. The terrific door prize is only one of the many attractions at CMHA‘s annual auction. The auction will be held this Sunday, Nov. 20th, at the newlyâ€"renoâ€" vated Oakville Club, 56 Water St. The preview and silent auction will be held at 1 p.m., with the auction getting underâ€" way at 2 p.m. According to Peggy Grall â€" director of Community Resource Programs at CMHA Haltonâ€" the auction has taken a bit of a departure from the usual this "In previous years, the auction focused primarily on art. Now that the grey November skies suggest it is time to turn our activities indoors, why not look into sharing some of your personal time with others? The Women‘s Information and Support Centre of Halton is located in Hopedale Mall and offers women a place to begin to control their own lives. Training for Peer Counsellors will begin in January and run for three hours a week for six weeks. Eight Peer Counsellors are needed. You must be 21 yearsâ€"ofâ€"age, be a good listener in a nonâ€" judgmental and empathetic manner. The goal is to provide information and referâ€" rals regarding services for women in the community. The Support Centre is open each Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and also from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays. Call Melvina Walker at the Centre, §47â€"5520. Marketing and fundraising expertise has been requested by the Distress Centre. Three people are needed to form a committee to assist members of the board of directors. It‘s a small time commitment â€" one or two hours in a monthly evening meeting. This person will work with students to implement events (garage sales, bingos) to raise funds to help the program which matches teenage volunteers with children at risk. The Special Olympics has grown to service over two million mentally handiâ€" capped athletes in more than 100 counâ€" tries around the world. Over 3,000 volâ€" unteers are involved in the program and the numbers needed for the Special Olympic events swells to over 10,000. In Oakville, three specific positions need to be filled â€" swimming assistant coach, and a community coâ€"ordinator, and secâ€" retary for the Community Council. Due to the expansion of the Halton Area Special Olympics Program, a large number of volunteers are needed to proâ€" vide assistance to athletes in a variety of ways â€" from transporting them to events to professionally coaching.
