Since the province‘s awarding of the grant on Aug. 1st, the wheels have been turning. Architect Gren Weis has preâ€" pared conceptual drawings, which have been on view at Town Hall. Many corâ€" porations, service clubs, and individuals have committed their money, their talâ€" ents, and their goods and services to make the stage a reality. The Site Plan Committee of the Town has approved of the plans, and a building permit is immiâ€" nent. It is expected that a project managâ€" er will be hired and construction will begin in December with the project to be completed well in time for the Waterfront Festival in June of 1995. When the Coalition canvassed the comâ€" munity, it found that there were many individuals and groups prepared to get behind the project, and with many worthwhile ideas as to potential uses for a proper waterfront stage. The OAC Geography class at Appleby College has agreed to undertake a community surâ€" vey to determine potential and proper could not commit the other 50% of the funds for the stage. Onto the scene came a coalition of community organizations committed to raising the matching funds so that this opportunity would not be lost. Initially composed of the Oakville Waterfront Festival, the Oakville Arts Council, and St. Lawrence Cement, the Waterfront â€" Stage Coalition was born and set out to raise the necessary cash and inâ€"kind contributions to match the provincial funding and to make a new stage a realiâ€" ty.
