But only for a AND RECREATION }â€" Oakville‘s tripleâ€"AAA midget team used a tripleâ€" edged blade to continue their winning ways this week with a 4â€"0 win over their closest rivals, second place Brampton. The Anixter Rangers were bolstered by a trio of midgetâ€"aged players from the Oakville Blades provincial junior A hockey team â€" B.J. Hamilton, Mike Robinson and Bryan Vines. With some "great cooperation from the Blades" they were on hand to replace four suspended Rangers â€" Rob Muldoon, Rory Hardman, Kevin Woit and Steve MacGibbon. Also up to help was Chad Blundy from the tripleâ€" AAA bantam team. It didn‘t take long to renew old acquaintances. Assistant coach Bob Kapustik said he coached B.J. Hamilton and Rob Kerr in peewee. Along with Rob Medeiros, he said the line was "really clicking." Having lost only one game in the current camâ€" Pnrich Ihe holidays limited time. "It‘s a great way to play an old favourite" Anixter Rangers blank Brampton 4â€"0 Blade midgets to the rescue paign, he said the team is increasingly facing situaâ€" tions where opponents are trying to intimidate their key players. And that means a player like Adam Richards â€" "a pure goal scorer" â€" will need plenty of discipline to keep on their game. The upside is that the Anixter Rangers should also get to flex their powerplay, which they did against Brampton by scoring the first three goals with the man advantage. The shutout was recorded by Peter Wishloff who was back after a short stint on the injured list. The visiting Blades were prominent in the scoring summary. B.J. Hamilton scored the first goal and Bryan Vines took a pass from Wishloff and finished an endâ€"toâ€"end rush with a pretty goal. Jeff Wells and Andrew Smith also scored. Picking up assists were Rob Kerr, Mike Muldoon, R.J. Carr, Steve Galasso, Peter Wishloff, Rob Frankovic and Adam Richards. Four skaters were in London this past weekend at the Forest City International short track speed skating meet. The event was classified as an allâ€"points meet â€" which means that the skaters were seeded into categories by their own best 500â€"metre time. All skaters produced individual personal best times while gaining competitive experience and honing their skating skills. Part of the meet was devoted to choosing the 12 short track Canada Winters Games team members that will be competing in Grand Prairie, Alberta, next February. The Oakville skaters witnessed firstâ€"hand the calibre of skater that ends up representing Canada at national, world and Olympic events. Talk about fast! Talk about fast, Lisa Merrill, 13, won her division by sweeping all four distance events. She managed perâ€" sonal bests in 222 metres (34:84 seconds), 500m (1:17:12), 111m (17:60 seconds), and 333m (51:24 seconds). Great starts and strong straightâ€" away skating made Merrill the one to beat. For her efforts, she will be moving up two categories. Matthew O‘Donnell, 12, a seasoned competitor with three meet appearances to date, did some gutsy skating to pull off a fourth place finish in a 15â€"man field. There were plenty of exciting moments for O‘Donnell, as he also racked up personal bests in all four distances. He proved he is an up and coming contender by going up against skaters who have been in the sport for several years. O‘Donnell, by contrast, started his short track career in October. His times were: 1:07.75 in the 500m (knocking six seconds of his previous best); 1:30:02 in the 666m; 30.51 in the 222m and 45:52 in the 333m.
