(Continued from page 25) - Dan Adlam, skating in his ï¬rst short track meet, impressed everyone with his skating form and competitive drive. Placing fourth out of nine skaters was no small feat as he, too, competed against much more experi- enced kids. There were plenty of thrills and spills as Adlam drove for the ï¬nish line in four distances setting new personal best times each time. Impressive beginnings for skater He placed second in the 500m with 1: 10:02, and second in the 111m with 15:90 seconds. A slight mishap in the 222m (31: 15 seconds) turned out to be the difference between a third and fourth place ï¬nish. His 333m (50:46 seconds) topped off a great weekend of skating. The club's ï¬nal competitor, Janice Cunningham, competed in the adult novice event. With adrenaline pumping, she proceeded to knock 10 seconds off her best 500m time (1:16:12) and kicked off her march to a third-place ï¬nish in a nine-skater ï¬eld; Cunningham had to skate strategically to get the results she needed to place well. Her excellent conditioning gave her the endurance to produce a strong ï¬nishing kick in each of her four distances. Her new times to beat are: 666m (1:39:75), 333m (48:78 seconds), and 777m (1:57:73). The Oakville Speed Skating Club will be ï¬nishing their ï¬rst ten-week session tonight and anyone wishing to take a closer look is welcome to come by Kinoak arena at 7 pm For more information, phone head coach Karen Lalonde at 847-5511.
