ue New Catholic Séhdol chair cool to sharing facility with public board By DENNIS GIBBONS Special to The Beaver joint publicâ€"Roman Catholic elementary school in the Millcroft area of Burlington would be unworkable, says the new chair of the Halton Roman Catholic School Board. Alice Anne LeMay, trustee for ward . 3 in Oakville, took over the gavel at Tuesday night‘s inaugural meetâ€" ing of the board. She succeeds Irene McCauley of Georgetown, who has served as chair for the past three years. "If you combine a public and separate school in that particular area, with 1,200 kids it would be too big," LeMay said Wednesday. She said a new Roman Catholic elementary school for the area is number one on the board‘s capital expenditures forecast list. The board will have the enrollment numbers to justify its own school, she added. Ratepayers from the Millcroft area approached the board earlier this year proposing a joint school, but the board was cool to the idea. In her inaugural remarks LeMay addressed the challenges facing the board in the areas of curriculum assessment and maintenance of quality Catholic education both in the home and at school. "We know we must stretch every dollar and find ways to help all of our staff understand the need to continually find more effective ways of delivering program," she said. j "In an increasingly secular sociâ€" ety our youth are faced with many challenges to their Catholicity," she added. "This means an enduring need from family and school to support and help them develop their faith." First elected to the board in 1980, LeMay has just completed a threeâ€"year term as viceâ€"chair and has been involved with salary negoâ€" tiations throughout the past two Flyer Distribution any day of the week, any quantity from $35 per thousand.
