Canadian Living‘s Best a nice addition to cookbook collection Canadian Living‘s Best ... by Elizabeth Baird and the Food Writers of Canadian Living Magazine published by Madison Press 1994 Over many years of reading and trying out cookbooks and recipes, I‘ve discovered that there are some I can count on and some that I can‘t. Canadian Living magazine is one of the good ones; I‘ve never had a recipe from their pages not work out, and the food editor‘s tastes seem to match those of my family. Now (just in time for Christmas!) the magazine has published a series of inexpensive books â€" each featuring a specific category of recipe: pasta, chicken, oneâ€"dish meals, etc. They‘ve promised more to come in the future, and I‘m looking forward to them because the current books include some excellent and easyâ€" toâ€"follow recipes. My favorites so far are Muffins and More. The baked goodies in this book are tasty, easy to make, and a hit with my entire family (always an important criteria). I expect we‘ll be enjoying these recipes (when we‘re not drooling over the photos that illustrate many of the dishes) for many years to come. If you‘re looking for an addiâ€" tion to your own cookbook colâ€" lection or trying to find a gift for someone who wants to add to their own recipe repertoire, this series will be a good choice. McLaren Barnes hosts local artist‘s work The work of Oakville artist Sally Jackson is on exhibit at McLaren Barnes Gallery. Jackson works in small sizes using pastels to create still life and landscape paintings and is inspired by flowers, vegetables, plates and vases. "I love the immediacy of the chalk pastels," says Jackson. "They have wonderful brilliance, depth and subtlety of color and tone and allow great flexibility." In 1984, Jackson began studying drawing and painting eventually enrolling in the Illustration program at Sheridan College, featuring interpretative illustration and book design. Since 1993, however, she has been painting fulltime. Her work is regularly selected for the themed exhibitions of the Art Works program of the Oakville Arts Council and in the 1994 annual Juried Spring Show of the OAS, Jackson received an honorable menâ€" tion. McLaren Barnes is located at 133 Reynolds St. and gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF OAKVILLE NOTICE TOWN OF OAKVILLE APPOINTMENTS TO THE TWELVE MILE CREEK/BURLOAK DRIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE Oakville Town Council has established the Twelve Mile Creek/Burloak Drive Advisory Committee to work with the Town during the implementation of the Burloak Drive/Twelve Mile Creek Environmental Assessment Study recommendations.
