Flippance Carr Bronte Village Mall â€" 2441 Lakeshore Road W OAKVILLE 827-1 580 Jake begins to like the winter he‘d never seen it falling before. Fascinated, he began to follow the flakes around the town. He saw children making snowâ€" men and building snow forts, snowâ€" covered pine trees, big snow plows along Lakeshore Road and he saw people out shovelling snow from their driveways (although that didn‘t look like so much fun). Everywhere he went, he saw that ~ man dressed in red from the Parade. The man was at the mall, surroundâ€" ed by children, and on posters and pictures around town. There were even statues of the man in red on people‘s front lawns. "Who is this fellow?" he asked himself scratching his head. "I‘ve | never seen him at the Waterfront Festival, but he always seems to go to the winter parade." 4 Jake decided to go back to the shopping mall and meet the man. He saw long lines of children, waitâ€" ing to climb up onto the man‘s lap and ask for toys and games. The red man‘s friends were all dressed in green, and the man in red‘s wife had silverâ€"grey hair her clothes were also red. Jake wanted to join the children and climb up onto the man‘s lap to ask for some toys himâ€" self, but thought maybe he‘d be too * heavy. Besides, why would the jolly old man want to bring him preâ€" sents? Jake left the mall more conâ€" fused than ever. Wandering out into the snow, Jake thought that maybe it was time for him to take his winter nap. He walked down to Coronation Park where he saw some children playing on the play set near the barn. Ready for one last romp in the snow, Jake _ joined the children in their play. All the children wanted to know what Jake was doing for Christmas. "Christmas!" Jake thought to _ himself, "What is that?! it sounds _ like something really fun â€" sort of like a Festival in the winter!!" The children explained that Christmas was a time of giving, and receiving, gifts...a time to celebrate with family and eat LOTS of food. Jake thought that sounded just fine. The children said that if you are good all year, Santa Claus will visit your home and bring you nice preâ€" sents. Santa Claus! That‘s who the nice man dressed in red is at the mall! Jake had finally figured it all out. He decided he might like Christmas almost as much as summer time. So, instead of going to sleep this winter, Jake from the Lake is going â€" to stay. awake...at least until Christmas. Jake‘s story translated by Carrie ! Janisse of the Oakville Waterfront Festival Jake from the Lake, and all the * volunteers at the Oakville Waterfront Festival would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays and _ a wonderful New Year.
