The Oakville Beaver others that's when she got really nervous. "I was thinking, `Oh no, I'm going to forget my lyrics,'" she said. The group of 20 was then split into groups of five and after a bit more waiting, they were taken to a small room to sing for two judges a process that was closed to the media. Each contestant was allowed to sing one verse and one chorus. "Considering my nerves, I thought I did pretty well," said McCaffrey. "The judge said that I had a really beautiful voice and for me to get voice training and come back next year because I was really close to getting in. I was a little disappointed because it was a long day, but I took the criticism in a good way." After her six-hour wait, the actual audition process, McCaffrey said, was over with "really quickly." "As soon as you leave the room, you go directly on an elevator and they kick you out the door," she said, laughing. "Right on to the street." McCaffrey says she'll probably audition again next year. Oakville's Santamaria and Ellerson, who didn't make it through the first round of judges, have similar plans. "They told me I have a sweet voice, but that it's still maturing and I should come back next year," said Santamaria. "He said that I should keep singing and doing what I love." Ellerson was in a strong group of singers and almost made it through to the second audition of the day, but judges could only send the top two from her group. At 16, she was the youngest, so judges elected to hold her back. "We had a really fun, exciting day," said Santamaria. "Despite all the waiting, it was an awesome experience."
