8- The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday May 3, 2006 MORE LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Give grieving families privacy I was upset by your editorial heading Cowardly decision, Oakville Beaver, Friday April 28. Our son was killed in a car accident. Stephen wasn't a soldier fighting for our country and our freedom, but he was "our son". When you are first told that your son has been killed you are in complete disbelief and shock. The next step is to face the coffin that holds your son and then the "reality" sets in. Prime Minister Stephen Harper was giving the parents and families privacy and dignity to greet their sons without cameras and reporters all around them. Information was given to the public by television, radio, and newspapers. We had television coverage in Afghanistan. How did the Harper Government shield us from the truth of war? We see television coverage every day. The Canadian public hasn't been shielded from the truth! These four soldiers did make the ultimate sacrifice representing this country and our freedom and we all grieve for them. Support and gratitude can be given to their families by sending them cards and Emails. Do something special through the Canadian Legion in their memory. Please remember these men are "sons" first and our soldiers second! The parents and families were given the privacy they deserved. Keep the flag flying at Parliament Hill, that's what these brave young men fought for. JOAN HERRON JUNE 2-3, 2006 - APPLEBY COLLEGE - 7 P.M. to 7 A.M. Join Us For A Night to Remember.
