The Oakville Beaver, Friday May 5, 2006 - 21 Craft yourself a hobby at library expo Ever wanted to fly a model airplane, knit, bead or do scrapbooking? The Craft and Hobby Expo, presented by the Oakville Public Library, is an opportunity to discover a new hobby or develop a new skill. Community organizations and businesses will showcase a wide range of activities and answer questions. The Craft and Hobby Expo is Wednesday, May 10 from 2:30-7:30 p.m. at the Atrium in Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. Admission is free. Having a hobby is good for you. The human brain is made to be creative and constantly `exercised'. Hobbies are activities different from jobs that stimulate an entirely different part of the brain than your job does. Switching from one activity to a totally dissimilar one gives your brain some creative rejuvenation. It would appear people in Oakville are already actively involved with hobbies or intrigued with the idea of starting one. "Our craft and hobby related titles were flying off the shelves," said Melissa Cameron, Oakville library Marketing and Development manager. There are no shortage of local clubs and organizations. Exhibitors include: Burlington Guild of Sculptors and Wood Carvers, Haberdashers Bead Boutique, Oakville Handweavers and Spinners Guild, Oakville Association of Knitters and Crocheters, Oakville Arts Society, Oakville Seniors' Camera Club, Oakville Quilter's Guild, Oakville Scrap and Stamp Group, Oakville Scrapbook Makers Group, Oakville Model Flying Club, and Sheridan College. Demonstrations will take place throughout the day. The Haberdashers Bead Boutique will demonstrate at 3 p.m., learn about painting and wallpapering with Audrey MacDonald at 4 p.m., discover canoe and paddle carving with Roger Foster at 5 p.m., and at 6 p.m., catch the Oakville Scrapbook Makers Group. Don't forget your library card. The library will have a collection of craft and hobby related books on site to help you get started. The Regional b ur eal Cp Ap Municipality of Halton Register Today!
