14 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday May 17, 2006 `I think we broke the record' Continued from page 13 ORTHODONTIST Play Sony PlayStation or watch TV during treatment TOWN CENTER ORTHODONTICS 243 North Service Road, West Suite 301, Oakville (905) 849-1717 That was followed by an eruption of cheers from the jugglers clad in Guinness World Record Mass Juggling Attempt T-shirts. If an object was dropped during the 10-second period, the juggler would sit down and not be included in the tally by counters, who were set up in 10 different sections along with video cameras capturing the action for Guinness Book. "It was really fun I think we did it," said 11-year-old E.J. James Public School student Julia Zigrossi, who was there along with her brothers, Derek, Ryan and Blake, and her mom, Ineke. "I'm feeling pretty tired because we had to wake up really early, but it was exciting. I think we broke the record because we practiced a lot." The Johnston family woke up at 3:15 a.m. to make it to the event on time. They live just outside Collingwood. So, was it worth the drive? "Definitely," said a smiling Tori Johnston, a former Pine Grove student who moved recently and got her entire family involved in the record-setting event. "It was really fun." Jugglers came from Ottawa, Waterloo, London and Barrie one family even came from Atlanta, Georgia, said Deneau. "They've come from all over. It's really been amazing how many people from so many different places have gotten involved." Approximately 1,500 jugglers had registered prior to the event, but on record day, hundreds more were being invigilated and others were handing in their forms. The scene was hard to miss. By 6:30 a.m., the Oakville Place parking lot was packed and a lineup of hundreds of people waiting to sign in had formed outside the entrance near Shoppers Drug Mart. "I'm feeling pretty tired because we had to wake up really early, but it was exciting. I think we broke the record because we practiced a lot." Julia Zigrossi, 11 E. J. James student "There's only one town that's crazy enough and brave enough to do something like you did this morning, and that's Oakville," MPP and juggling judge Kevin Flynn said to the enthusiastic crowd. "I'm so proud of all of you." This is something Pine Grove Public School has been organizing in conjunction with its 50th anniversary and in support of Transitions for Youth, a local organization that assists at-risk youth, since the beginning of the school year. That's when Grade 6 student, Simon Harmgardt, who was introduced Thursday by Woolfrey as "the one that started it all," first voiced the idea. "It's so great to see this actually happen," he said. "Even if we don't break the world record, I'm still really happy because so many people learned how to juggle. There's 75-year-old grandparents here that learned to juggle." Deneau had similar things to say to the crowd following the attempts Thursday. "We did our absolute, total best," he said, before leading them in the singing of the national anthem. "Whether we break (the record) or not, it's awesome." Deneau praised the many volunteers who helped the event happen, including co-chair, Woolfrey, who he called "a godsend," Pine Grove principal Chris Alexiou, vice-principal Karen Bonanno, Louise Hart, Cindy Capstick, Lyn Wood, David Wright and John Walsh. Pine Grove volunteers say preliminary results of the world record mass juggling attempt will be released soon. After that, tapes of the world record attempts will be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records' office in England, where they'll be reviewed. That process could take a few months before anything is made official. CMM BBQ22nd n., May Mo FOR WALK LES MIRC e 11th n Ju Sun., info. contact instore.
