Body panel gaps are uniform throughout and there has been obvious attention spent on interior details. The view from the driver's seat is good in all directions but to the immediate rear where a high kick-up at the tail makes backing up in tight quarters an exercise in guesswork. The brake pedal sits high in the driver's footwell and requires a conscious lift of the right foot when coming off throttle, and firm pressure from the leg muscle to apply the brakes in aggressive stopping manoeuvres. The driver views a sleek instrument panel with electroluminescent, Viper-inspired circular gauges with white faces highlighted by silver accent rings. Steering effort through the near bus-sized wheel is light and direct, though some vagueness could be detected on-centre. The four big doors swing out wide to allow easy entry and exit to all passenger seating areas. A near 50/50 front/rear weight distribution provides a balanced ride, though in the SXT application there was more body roll in tight corners than the suspension firmness might have suggested. There are no plans at this time to introduce all-wheel-drive to the Charger lineup, as has been done with the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum wagon. The 3.5-litre V6 provides decent torque in the lower ranges to move the SXT off the line smoothly and quickly, producing an appropriate growl from the single exhaust pipe as revs rise. The 5-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly up and down the scale, in both automatic and AutoStick modes.
