32 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday May 17, 2006 NOTICE OF STUDY COMPLETION LAKESHORE WEST CORRIDOR RAIL EXPANSION Port Credit GO Station (Mississauga) to Kerr Street (Oakville) THE STUDY: GO Transit, the Province of Ontario's interregional public transit service for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas, has completed a Preliminary Design Study and Class Environmental Assessment for the Lakeshore West Corridor Rail Expansion. The study area is between Port Credit GO Station in the City of Mississauga and Kerr Street in the Town of Oakville. This section of the corridor currently has two tracks and the study examined adding a third track to permit increased peak period service and to improve system reliability. Proposed improvements include constructing a new track along the north side of the existing tracks from Port Credit GO Station to approximately 800 metres west of Royal Windsor Drive. At this point, all three tracks will run along the south side of Oakville Yard, then switch back to the north side between Chartwell Road and Trafalgar Road. The new track will run along the north side of the existing tracks from Trafalgar Road to west of Kerr Street where it will join the existing three-track section. BUSINESS IN OAKVILLE Region holds business plan competition Helping students make their mark Students throughout Halton are invited to enter the Ontario Secondary School Business Plan Competition to gain business experience and potentially win cash awards. Aspiring entrepreneurs can write a business plan for a company they want to start or one that's just an idea. The Halton Region Business Development Centre holds the local business plan competition each year in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. Students can win one of five cash awards ranging from $200 to $1,000. Winners at the local level can advance to the regional competition where there are even more awards to be won. All full-time secondary school students are eligible to apply, regardless of their stream of study. Official sponsor RBC Royal Bank and a panel of business leaders will judge the entries according to a set of guidelines that can be accessed from Halton's Web site, www.halton.ca. Plans must be submitted to teachers by May 26. The deadline for submissions from schools to the business development centre is June 2. Teachers are encouraged to contact the centre for more information on getting Halton's business consultants to make in-class presentations about youth opportunities and to find more resources to help students write their business plans. For more details on the competition or other Halton youth programs call the Halton Region Business Development Centre at (905) 825-6000 or visit www.halton.ca/business.
