He is hosting his first annual charity barbecue on Saturday, May 27 in support of Halton Women's Place. The barbecue will be held at The Co-operators office, 3420 Rebecca St. Unit 24, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. "We want to make a difference in the community where we work and play. Donating all of the proceeds from the first annual charity barbecue to Halton Women's Place will benefit more than 700 women and 400 children who need their services as residential and/or community clients every year," said Pecharich. Halton Women's Place has been providing emergency crisis shelter and counseling services to abused women and children in Halton since 1980. Staff respond to more than 2,000 crisis calls a year. With 50 beds available on a daily basis, the two shelters located in Milton and Burlington operate above 100 per cent capacity more than 30 per cent of the time. "We are so grateful to Dave Pecharich and his team at The Cooperators for their support and spirit of giving," said the Director of Development for Halton Women's Place, Karyn Racher. Halton Women's Place receives 75 per cent of its funding from the Ministry of Community and Social Services. The remaining 25 per cent is raised through charitable donations from individual groups, clubs, corporations and foundations. "Without the support of businesses like The Co-operators, we would not be able to keep our doors open and continue providing the essentials services and programs we do. This event will definitely help the women and children who call the two shelters home," Racher said.
