The Oakville Beaver, Friday May 26, 2006 - 27 Intrada Brass winds up season with Have Tuba, Will Travel Oakville's Intrada Brass wraps up its second season at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts on Sunday, with Have Tuba, Will Travel. The concert features Canadian tubist, Karen Bulmer, who will play Edward Gregson's Tuba Concerto and her one-woman cabaret routine, Girl Meets Tuba. A native of London, Ontario and a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and Yale University, Bulmer is active as a freelance tubist, racking up performances with the KitchenerWaterloo Symphony, Orchestra London Canada and Toronto's Hannaford Street Silver Band. She is a member of the Trillium Brass Quintet, with whom she has toured extensively. This fall, Bulmer heads to Newfoundland to take up a teaching post at Memorial University in St. John's. She has previously taught at the University of Windsor and the University of Prince Edward Island. Several years ago, Bulmer's sound documentary, Joined At The Lips, was broadcast by CBC Radio. In addition to accompanying Bulmer, Bram Gregson will conduct Intrada Brass in Gustav Holst's Suite No. 1 in E-flat and Harmonious Variations on a Theme by Handel by Gordon Langford. The band will also play John Philip Sousa's The Liberty Bell (the Monty Python theme), John Denver's Perhaps Love, featuring Michael Hetherington and Paul Rayment on euphonium, and Gabriel Fauré's Pavane, arranged by associate conductor Kevin Norbury.
