The two or three-month-old raccoon spent more than eight hours -- from 3 a.m. until his "He's been rescue at 11:30 making a lot of a.m. yesterday noise." -- with his entire head Homeowner stuck in the Judith Powell can, sitting on the roof and banging it against the eavestrough of a Hedgerow Lane home. "He's been making a lot of noise," said homeowner, Judith Powell, who watched the raccoon struggle with the can up to his ears while the Oakville Humane Society and Humane Wildlife Control prepared for his rescue. "It almost sounded like a person was in our attic. We heard footsteps and a lot of banging around. We're interested in whether this little guy could make as much noise as we were hearing." The Powells who don't eat Chef Boyardee mini ravioli realized the racket was coming from the roof when a neighbour came out and spotted the culprit. After seeing his predicament, the raccoon was appropriately named Chef by curious onlookers. In a quick about face, Council has apparently solved the safety and liability issues which prompted the Santa Claus Parade Committee to remove the 60-year-old parade from kerr Street. Two weeks ago, council listened for nearly three hours, but took no action as it heard public outcry -- particularly from the Kerr Village community -- as the parade Committee announced the route would be moved from Kerr onto Lakeshore Road. The decision was reluctantly made due to safety concerns and personal liability risks the volunteer committee members were not willing to accept. Council did nothing, despite attempts by Ward 2 Councillors Fred Oliver and Cathy Duddeck to get the parade back on Kerr and despite residents showing up at council wearing badges that read "Keep Santa on Kerr."
