The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday June 3, 2006 - 11 Past Community Spirit winners honoured at this year's awards The Town of Oakville will celebrate its fifth annual Oakville Community Spirit Awards on June 14. Not only will the evening see eight new volunteers and groups recognized for their outstanding contribution to our community, it will also acknowledge all award nominees and recipients from the past four years. "We are looking forward to introducing the 2006 Oakville Community Spirit Awards recipients," said Louise Veres, Chair of the awards committee. "Each year our selection committee has a tough job in choosing the award winners, especially when there are so many deserving volunteers in Oakville. That's why, in celebration of our fifth anniversary, we want to honour all of our past nominees and recipients." An Oakville Community Spirit Awards "gallery" will be on display in the reception area the night of the awards showcasing past nominees and recipients, including: · Angela Racette, who received the Seniors Award in 2005 for her volunteer work with TeleTouch since 1993. · Jasmine Normoyle, who received the Youth Award in 2004 for contributing over 390 volunteer hours to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and was President of the Youth Volunteer Advisory Council. · The volunteers at Ian Anderson House, who received The Group Volunteer Award in 2003. · Howard Wills, who received the Individual Award in 2002 for his work on the Red Shield Campaign for the past 20 years. · Tim Hortons, which received the Community Connections Award in 2005 for its continuous support of Town initiatives including the Community Spirit Awards and the free Holiday Skate. · Helen Barnes, who was nominated for the Arts Award in 2003 for her years of contribution to the Oakville Arts Council · Alvin Duncan, who was nominated for the Heritage and History Award in 2002 for his integral role in raising awareness of Oakville's Black History. · Malcom "Mac" Murray, who was nominated for the Sport Development Award in 2004 for dedicating his time to the Minor Oakville Hockey Association and Oakville Little league. The awards evening is at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre.
