www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 16, 2006 - 13 Oakville Transit fares to jump as of July 1 There'll be both good news, and bad news, for regular transit users in Oakville come July 1. The good news is that the income tax credit for bus pass purchases that was promised in May's federal budget will come into effect. The bad news is that an adult bus pass will increase in cost almost exactly the same amount. A monthly adult bus pass for Oakville Transit currently costs $68. At the beginning of next month, it will rise to $78. On the same day, a new federal income tax credit of 16 per cent on transit passes will come into effect. That will eventually save bus riders about $12.50 a month on the new fare price, but only bring Oakville riders down a small amount below what they are paying today. Fare increases will also hit seniors, who will see their monthly pass rise by $5 to $45 a month, as well as riders paying with cash or tickets. Student bus passes will remain at $50 a month. The fare increases will raise an additional $250,000 a year for Oakville Transit, which told the town's Citizen Transit Advisory Committee that it needs the money to cover previous service expansions, higher labour, fuel and maintenance costs, and an increased fleet size. The following will be Oakville Transit fares as of July 1: · Cash -- $2.50 (up 25 cents) · Adult Ticket -- $2.10 (up 30 cents) · Student Ticket -- $1.70 (up 15 cents) · Senior Ticket -- $1.40 (up 15 cents) · Day Pass -- $6.50 (up $1) Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival presents BRIAN AUGER'S OBLIVION EXPRESS With special guest LARRY CORYELL The legendary Brian Auger's Oblivion Express featuring the famed B3 and keyboard player, has created a distinct voice that combines jazz, rock, soul and funk.
