After three months of intense negotiation, the Town of Oakville has settled outside an Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing with just over half of the landowner/developers out to build north of Dundas Street and east of Sixteen Mile Creek. It's premature to say how much money or time it will shave from the predicted ninemonth, $13 million OMB hearing that will still begin on Aug. 21, but the settlement means the town has picked up significant other gains. Developers signing on to the agreement with the Town -- Halton Region, Conservation Halton and the Province -- have agreed to hand over the private property they own that the Town wants for its Natural Heritage System (NHS). The 145 hectares being handed over represents about 25 per cent of the total 600 hectare east/west natural linkage system. Town officials say it puts See Developers page 4 David Rickards is celebrating Father's Day by running five kilometres in the OTMH Classic ­ for good reason. "I would not actually be a father if it weren't for Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. "This will be my way of giving something back." On that day, he and his wife Kelly Spalding went to OTMH for what was to be a routine pre-natal examination. "Our due date was not until Aug. 11," he said. "Kelly had been having some minor complications throughout her pregnancy, but nothing that was that alarming" ­ so he thought.
