www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 16, 2006 - 21 Share ice cream with Mike and Ralph As a way to combat the summer heat, as well as any public questions or concerns, Ward 1 Councillors Mike Lansdown and Ralph Robinson invite Oakville residents to the third annual "Ice Cream with Mike and Ralph" Meet and Greet at the Bronte Butterfly Gazebo on Saturday, June 17. In addition to veteran Ward 1 Town Councillor Ralph Robinson and Ward 1 Town and Regional Councillor Mike Lansdown, also dropping by to meet the public will be Oakville Fire Chief Richard Boyes and the new Halton Regional Police Chief Gary Crowell. The event takes place June 17 from 2-4 p.m. at the Bronte Butterfly Foundation Gazebo located in the Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park on Ontario Street. Residents are invited to drop by, ask questions and get to know their neighbours, as well. Last year, more than 300 residents attended. "We've invited a number of local community groups and organizations to showcase their diverse services offered to our community," said Robinson. "This event will provide those involved, as well as those who attend, with a better understanding of what is going on in Bronte. It's great for families too. Kids can check out a fire truck, get their faces painted and pick up a free specialty balloon." Community groups invited and organizations participating include: the Bronte Community Consultative Committee; Bronte Village Residents' Association (BVRA); Bronte Commercial Fishermen Memorial; Bronte Village BIA; Bronte Butterfly Foundation; Bronte District Advisory Committee; Oakville Fire Department; Oakville Harbours Advisory Committee; Bronte Historical Society; Bronte Heritage Regional Waterfront Committee; Lake Ontario Shoreline Algae Action Committee; and the Terry Fox Run organizers. "We're expecting an even larger turn-out than last year. There continues to be a number of hot issues taking place in Bronte," said Lansdown. "This is a great opportunity for residents to have their questions or concerns addressed on the spot. It's also an ideal way to meet our constituents in an effort to learn about what issues matter most to them," said Lansdown. Free ice cream, water and pop will be provided to help "lick" any questions or concerns brought forward by visitors. This year's sponsors include the Butterfly Ice Cream Café, Pepsi and Halton Region.
