The quartet was victorious at the Halton District School Board's recent Gapes Junior relay meet, the third consecutive year it has won its age division. In the last Halton crosscountry meet, Abrahams finished first while Silliphant placed second. Also, Silliphant, Abrahams and Spratt-Johnson finished first, second and fourth, respectively, in the 400metre dash at a meet last year. Children learn and play soccer during the morning, then participate in swimming and other organized leisure activities in the afternoon. Full-day, morning and afternoon sessions are available, with early drop-off and late pick-up at no extra charge. The Oakville camp, which will begin July 4 and runs weekly throughout the summer, will be held at Glen Abbey Park (Third Line south of Upper Middle Road). Wynes wins synchro gold Oakville resident Samantha Wymes helped the Olympium Synchronized Swim Club novice team to an impressive showing at the III Synchro Peru Aquatic Cup last month in Peru. Wymes and nine other teammates earned gold in team competition, while the local youngster added individual silver in technical. South and North American countries attended the meet, with OSSC being Canada's representative. This week, the OSSC is competing in the Synchro National Championships at the Etobicoke Olympium, where it is expected to battle perennial power Montreal for overall gold. OAK medalists in Waterloo In a homecoming for coach Laura Nicholls, the Oakville Aquatic Club (OAK) more than held its own at a recent open-age meet in Waterloo. Kent Kikot was OAK's top performer, winning three golds and a silver. Brody Dyson and Erin Assman added a pair of golds each, while Graham Fink also won a race. OAK's surprise of the meet was 11-year-old Jacqueline Keire, who shattered her personal best by 35 seconds in the 800-metre freestyle to win bronze. Keire's time of 10:18.36 also eclipsed the national qualifying time by two seconds. Alex Plotnikov also reached the podium for OAK at the meet, winning bronze. Nicholls, a two-time Olympian, is from Waterloo and began her swimming days with the host Waterloo Swim Club. Other OAK swimmers to finish in the top eight of at least one event were Stacey Dibblee, Mika Spencer, Amanda Fraser, Megan Brocks and Julia Sinkovits. Mantis meets driving goals Ernie Jakubowski and Mantis Automotive had two objectives when they began the current racing season, and they've already accomplished both. Jakubowski, driver/owner of the Mantis team, aimed to become the first to race the new Porsche Cayman S and to be the first to win in it. He reached the first goal four months ago, competing in Sebring, Florida, and achieved the second objective last month when he earned a Porsche Club of America Club Racing `D' class victory in Lexington, Ohio. "I wanted a new challenge," said Jakubowski, who owns Mantis Automotive in Oakville. "I wanted to try something that was new and original. Making the new Cayman S into a race car seemed to fit that definition of a challenge." Badrov, 18, held a 93 per cent average at Trinity. He plans to study kinesiology and play soccer at McMaster University this fall, with future intentions of attending teacher's college. Andrea Corkum helped Trinity's basketball and soccer teams to Halton semifinal appearances this year. The 18-year-old, who was MVP of the Titans' basketball squad, also maintained an 85 per cent average in her classes. Corkum will attend Guelph University this fall. St. Thomas Aquinas Jeff Emberley and Delroy Mavroleon shared honours this year as St. Thomas Aquinas' male co-athletes of the year. Emberley enjoyed strong seasons in both football and basketball, being selected to try out for Team Canada's under-20 football squad and helping the Raiders to a Halton AA basketball championship. He also played badminton and baseball. Emberley will attend Sir Wilfrid Laurier University. Mavroleon captained the Aquinas soccer team to an appearance in the Halton AA final, a year after being part of the school's provincial AA silver medal-winning squad. He also played football with the Raiders this past season. Andrea Adamic enjoyed plenty of team success this year at Aquinas as the Raiders won regional and provincial AA titles in soccer, a Halton AA crown in basketball and reached the Halton final in volleyball.
