40 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 16, 2006 www.oakvillebeaver.com OT edged in provincial rugby final After winning the Halton high school bantam boys' rugby title, the Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils fell just short of claiming the unofficial provincial championship. OT and St. John's High School played to a 5-5 draw in regulation time of the Barbarian Cup, contested Monday at Markham's Fletcher's Fields, before St. John's prevailed 2-1 in a kickoff. Jeff Horlor scored OT's try in the loss, with Ryan Vandervliet notching the Red Devils' lone goal in the kickoff. Chris Matthews was named OT's most valuable player in the tournament. The Red Devils, captained by Cory Hudson and Adam Johnston, won their semifinal contest 10-7 earlier in the day. John Berrigan, Kathryn O'Connell and Jamie Bay coached the squad this season. The Barbarian Cup appearance caps another fine rugby season at OT. The school's senior boys' and girls' teams both won Halton titles this year and competed at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AAA/AAAA tournaments.
